Text of Light
"Their sonic soundscapes fit Brakhage's films with a well-seasoned and well-placed stew of restrained, yet occasionally explosive results." --DMG Review
A mesmerizing evening of sound and image with an improv supergroup paying tribute to the landmark avant-garde films of Stan Brakhage. The prolific Brakhage (1933-2003) produced nearly 400 experimental "light poems" that were largely hypnotic explorations of light, image, and distortion. The live concert sound track for this event is led by explosive jazz drummer William Hooker and Sonic Youth's guitarist Lee Ranaldo, and also includes New York City's crack turntablist DJ Olive, guitarist Alan Licht, and Berlin-based saxophonist Ulrich Krieger.
