Pittsburgh Filmmakers' 24th annual Three Rivers Film Festival Nov. 3 – 17, 2005 Special Events PDF (12 Mb) November 3 at the Byham Theater: reception at 6pm, film at 7:30. Opening night! A lost classic film starring Rudolph Valentino and Gloria Swanson will be presented with live musical accompaniment by Dr Philip Carli of Rochester, NY. For 75 years nothing survived of Beyond the Rocks except a one-minute fragment, until hundreds of rusty film cans showed up in the estate of a Dutch film collector. After careful restoration we now have the entire film, a rare gift for many reasons. (Tickets: $10.) November 5 at the Harris Theater at 2:30. Nickelodeon 5-cent Screening. The proliferation of specialized motion picture theaters - the nickelodeon - brought movies to the masses. And the world’s first nickelodeon opened in Pittsburgh in 1905. Relive the experience for just one nickel! The delightful piano music of Philip Carli will accompany an assortment of short films from the early 1900s. (Tickets: $0.05.) November 5 at the Regent Square Theater at 11pm. What may be Roger Corman’s finest production, X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes was a B-movie sensation in 1963. The legendary American avant-garage rock band Pere Ubu will provide an atmospheric live underscore. (Tickets: $15.) November 11 at the Harris Theater at 8pm. Short film awards screening, including cash prizes. Co-sponsored by Kodak and FinalDraft, this competition drew over 200 entries for the 2004 festival. Reception follows. (Tickets: regular price.) November 14 at the Melwood Screening Room at 5:30. University of Pittsburgh Learning Solutions reception prior to Ballets Russes. (Tickets: regular price.) November 16 at the Melwood Screening Room.
